Our Multiple Roles
Nowadays, we are being pulled at all areas in our various roles and these roles can be extremely overwhelming and stressful in the long run. At home, I will be a mom, a wife, a daughter-in-law and a daughter. At work, I will be a teacher, mentor, events coordinator etc. have never been much of an organizer and i always ended up frustrated when I need to search for items to use desperately. I also ended up buying repeated items because I could not find the stuff that I have used earlier - especially in a time crunch. Soon, I found that in my line of work; your passion for your career will die out quickly if there is lack of proper time management and organization. Soon I began to realise that if I don't start learning this skill soon, a recurring vision of heading for a mental breakdown would start to appear before me. I have to start soon but slowly. First, I started to read up of tips on decluttering my life and found the tips below especially useful for me.
Tips
- Use colour codes to differentiate sections of items
- Use transparent boxes or files so that you can see what is stored inside quickly
- Always have a designated area to place the item- Place similar things together that are of the same function or from the same period
- Label if possible so that you can look for your items quickly
- Paste a list that displays expiry dates of items (such as cosmetics)
- Create a list of grocery items for specific dishes for meals for the week
- Display the items in an aesthetic way if possible so that it will not become "out of sight, out of mind".
- If you can find some organization tools that look aesthetically pleasing as well, use it! Not only will it serve it's function; it will bring a smile to your face or lift your mood in an instant.
The above pictures show some of the tips that I have tried out and that worked well for me. I will be jotting more if I find more tried-and-tested tips. If you have any others that work well for you, please feel free to comment!
